Det er kun ham, der vil være i stand til at standse ildmesteren, så der igen kan blive balance i verden. Problemet er, at avataren er kun en lille 12-årig dreng, som hedder aang, og at han er under tidspres af en komet, der vil kunne give ildmesteren kraft nok til at kunne afslutte krigen selv.
