Vestre Fængsel har fået ny direktør, så Egon Olsen vil ikke tilbage til fængslet. Olsen Banden indleder deres sidste kup: at stjæle 5 millioner kroner fra Høje Nord. Kuppet bliver let gennemført men så opstår problemerne. Høje Nord gør alt for at få kufferten med de 5 millioner kroner tilbage. Endelig finder Egon ud af, at kufferten ikke indeholder fem millioner men derimod kontrakten til en ulovlig våbenhandel på 1 milliard kroner. Egon bliver endnu engang taget ved næsen og filmen slutter med, at Egon bliver reddet af Kjeld og Benny fra af falde ned i et kar med dødbringende kemikalier. Filmen fortsættes i "Olsen-Banden over alle bjerge".
