Af disse har Pier Paolo Pasolini udvalgt et antal historier, hvor han igen er på hjemmebane og satiriserer kirken, mens han giver et billede af mennesket i sin menneskeligste skikkelse. Pasolini har selv en rolle i filmen som den store maler Allievo Di Giotto. Denne kunstner var den første til at male i perspektiv med dybde på samme måde, som det tredimensionelle filmmedies dybde fungerer teknisk. Three Italian retirees embark on a journey to find a new country to live in.

Meursault is a man who feels utterly isolated from everyone and everything around him. This alienation results in sudden, inexplicable bursts of violence, culminating in murder.

Alone on a farm, a man spends his days tending to his animals, with a particular love for his sow. After an illicit encounter between the two creatures, the pig gives birth. However, tragedy strikes when the man tries to force the newborn piglets to love him as he loves them.

Two dramatic stories. In an undetermined past, a young cannibal (who killed his own father) is condemned to be torn to pieces by some wild beasts. In the second story, Julian, the young son of a post-war German industrialist, is on the way to lie down with his farm's pigs, because he doesn't like human relationships.
